Troy Camp
Every year we put on a weeklong summer camp for these kids in Forest Falls, CA. For many of the kids this is the first time they have ridden a horse, slept under the stars, or been away from home. Through this incredible bonding experience we establish a strong relationship with the children.
Yearlong Programming
The Troy Camp experience does not end with the week of camp. Rather, monthly events are held throughout the year which vary from trips to the aquarium to events on the USC campus.
Leaders In Training
After children graduate from Troy Camp, they are eligible to participate in our Leaders In Training (LIT) middle school program. LIT prepares middle schoolers for high school and college with academic advisement, SAT preparation, and team building/leadership workshops.
Junior Counselors
Junior Counselors (or JCs) are high school students who want to continue with their Troy Camp experience by seeing it from the side of their mentors. These students hold important leadership positions at camp and throughout the year and receive further mentorship from the counselors they work alongside.
SMASH
During the following school year after camp, we further develop a mentorship with these children by putting on an after school tutoring program we fondly refer to as SMASH, (Student Mentoring and After School Help). Through SMASH we help students with their homework, create art projects, and conduct science experiments. SMASH is held Monday through Friday at five different elementary schools.
Specialized Programming
Specialized Programming (SP) is a way for counselors to pass on their knowledge and passion about a subject, ranging from art and drama to literacy and science, by teaching an hour long, weekly class at West Vernon Elementary School.
